About:
The idea behind this memorial is to commemorate all 20
000 partisans who have sacrificed their lives for their
country’s freedom in a fight against Soviet occupants.
The composition of the memorial consists of a 20-
meter-high obelisk shaped like a Lithuanian sword, a
memorial wall with the names of fallen partisans and a
square with the tomb of an unknown partisan. The sword
impaled on the top of the hill is a symbol of liberation,
protection of the native land. The part of the existing
mountain cut off with a sword creates an exposure - a
memorial wall of the fallen.
